Abilene Motor Express operates as a nationwide motor freight carrier within the transportation, logistics, supply chain, and storage sector. Headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, the company traces its origins to 1986, starting with a single tractor and expanding to a fleet capable of serving the continental United States and Canada. It emphasizes long-haul truckload work and provides expedited, time-definite services, along with regional operations and arrangements such as dedicated carriage and sole-source transportation for both dry and temperature-controlled commodities.

Its customer base comprises shippers that require reliable, time-sensitive freight solutions across dry and temperature-controlled goods, addressing capacity and service flexibility within supply chains. The company operates with a substantial fleet and workforce to enable broad national coverage. In 2018, Abilene Motor Express became part of Knight-Swift Transportation Holdings through an acquisition, reflecting its integration into a larger logistics entity.
