The Ad-Hoc Industry Natural Resource Management Group is an environmental services organization founded in 1988, with offices in Washington, DC and Brussels. It focuses on the full spectrum of natural resource–related issues that affect business and industry, including policy and practice, corporate strategy, and site-specific needs. Its membership comprises multinational industrial companies across sectors, and the group supports members on natural resource damage liability in the US, the Environmental Liability Directive in Europe, and other liability schemes worldwide, aligning with objectives such as economic efficiency, risk reduction, environmental stewardship, resource conservation and sustainability. The group operates an Affiliates program that includes legal, scientific and economic practitioners, law firms and consulting firms, and collaborates with a broad set of partners worldwide—industry associations, government authorities, research and conservation entities, and academic institutions—to advance the state of practice in a balanced and predictable way. Potential member companies are those with operations that could lead to industrial accidents, oil spills, chemical releases, or the transport of hazardous waste or oil. Participation is described as enabling time and cost savings, greater focus on preventive activity, reduced potential for legal challenges, and support for reputation and community relationships.
