Powering Up the World - The mission of Advanced Reactor Concepts, LLC (ARC) is to commercialize a disruptive new technology for power generation in the form of an advanced small modular reactor offering 100 MWe, the ARC-100. The reactor will be factory-built and offer the customer a twenty-year refueling cycle that provides fixed fuel costs for 20+ years. The ARC reactor is a sodium-cooled, metal fueled, fast-reactor. It is designed to provide safe, clean, affordable and proliferation-resistant nuclear power to energy markets in both the developed and the developing world. The non-proliferation features of the ARC reactor make it suitable for deployment anywhere in the world. The ARC-100 is based on technology proven by over 30 years of successful operation of the EBR-II, an experimental program operated by the U.S. government. The basic EBR-II technology has been enhanced by ARC through numerous, significant proprietary innovations (for which patents have been granted and applied) to create a “Fourth Generation” solution that will have wide applicability in both the US and export markets around the world. The ARC technical team includes scientists and engineers who were senior participants in the EBR-II program. In March 2017, GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) and ARC announced agreement to collaborate in the development and licensing of the ARC-100 with initial deployment in Canada. The companies will pursue a preliminary regulatory review by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission through its Vendor Design Review process, building on earlier technology licensing success in the United States. Like ARC, GEH developed it's PRISM sodium fast reactor based on the EBR-II, and is bringing significant experience, infrastructure, and intellectual property to the collaboration. No U.S. fast spectrum reactor technology has more test data, design maturity, programmatic information, or operational experience.
