African Communities Together (ACT) is a membership-based organization serving immigrants from sub-Saharan Africa and their families. Its work aims to help the African immigrant diaspora in the United States integrate socially, advance economically, and participate meaningfully in civic life. The group connects newcomers with direct services, cultivates grassroots leadership, and mobilizes communities through campaigns for social change. Based in New York City, ACT opened its first chapter there in fall 2012 and later expanded to the Washington, DC area in 2015. In December 2023, ACT supported a language access campaign that led to a city government adding four new languages, including French and Arabic, to its official translations.
