The National Urban League, founded in 1910 and headquartered in New York City, is a nonprofit federation focused on helping African Americans participate more fully in the economic and social mainstream. As the oldest and largest community-based movement of its kind, it coordinates a network of local affiliates. There are 94 affiliates across 35 states and the District of Columbia, delivering services to more than two million people through programs, advocacy, and research. Its mission is to enable African Americans to achieve economic self-reliance, parity, power, and civil rights. Operating in the nonprofit sector, the organization combines program delivery, policy advocacy, and research to address barriers to opportunity. In 2026, it announced a partnership with Meta to support joint initiatives.
