The AFT is a professional union based in Washington, DC, advocating for fairness, democracy, economic opportunity, and high-quality public education, healthcare, and public services for students, their families, and communities. In 2025, the AFT announced the launch of the National Academy for AI Instruction in collaboration with Microsoft, OpenAI, Anthropic and the United Federation of Teachers, to provide AI training and curriculum to its members, reaching all 1.8 million members starting with K-12 educators.
