Since its 1988 founding by a group of freelance radio producers in New York City, AIR has grown into a hub for independent media makers. We identify, cultivate and connect audio storytellers across the U.S. and the world. AIR is committed to expanding the ecosystem where independents can do their best work, advocate for their needs and build thriving careers.

Our network currently includes 1,300+ independent audio producers, multimedia journalists, and public media stations and networks across 47 states and 30 countries. Our members are journalists, podcasters, story editors, audio producers, documentarians, engineers, sound designers, and creative media entrepreneurs.

Our small-yet-mighty remote staff, currently led by CEO Ken Ikeda, and AIR’s Board of Directors are committed to building a more equitable, sustainable infrastructure in collaboration with our vibrant, growing community of independent media makers.
