The command was established on June 1, 1992 through the consolidation of Strategic Air Command and Tactical Air Command. Its primary customers are U.S. warfighting commands, to whom ACC provides airpower capabilities and the underlying command, control, communications, and intelligence infrastructure to support global operations and information operations. The organization employs several hundred personnel, and recent coverage notes that the Air Force planned to acquire two additional Boeing 747-800 aircraft from Lufthansa.
