Akron Civic Theatre: A Cultural Beacon in Downtown Akron Long recognized as one of Northeast Ohio’s cultural landmarks, the Akron Civic Theatre continues to inspire and engage through a dynamic mix of arts, entertainment, and community programming. With a storied history dating back to 1929, the Civic remains one of the few atmospheric theaters in the country, where guests enjoy performances under a twinkling star-lit sky and drifting clouds, all within the grandeur of our historic auditorium. In fiscal year 2025, the Civic hosted 393 events and welcomed nearly 170,000 guests across our venues: the historic main stage, Goodyear Theater, Knight Stage, and Wild Oscar’s. From national touring acts and local performers to immersive culinary experiences and community-led events, our programming reflects the vibrant diversity of Akron’s creative spirit. Beyond the stage, the Civic plays a vital role in shaping the perception of downtown Akron. With 12.6 million digital impressions in FY25, our reach extends far beyond our walls—amplifying the region’s cultural identity and economic vitality. A 2023 study commissioned by the John S. & James L. Knight Foundation found that Civic patrons contributed $20M+ in local spending, supporting nearby restaurants, hotels, and businesses. Whether you're attending a show, hosting a private event, or simply exploring downtown, we invite you to experience the magic of the “Jewel on Main Street.” Join us in celebrating the arts, community, and the enduring legacy of the Akron Civic Theatre.
