Its core offerings include general technical assistance for planning, applications, and administration of area-wide programs, along with program-specific support in aging services, economic development, 9-1-1 systems, homeland security, criminal justice, resource recovery, air quality, transportation, weatherization, and workforce initiatives. AACOG administers the Alamo Local Authority for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and funds its activities through local dues, state appropriations, state and federal grants matched by local funds, and other public and private sources. In 2025 it expanded regional collaboration through a partnership with the University of Texas at Tyler.
