Alannah & Madeline Foundation is a national not-for-profit organization based in South Melbourne, Victoria, focused on protecting children and young people from violence and trauma in home, school, and community settings. It was founded in the wake of the Port Arthur massacre, when Alannah and Madeline Mikac and their mother were killed, and was established around 1997 by Walter Mikac AM and a group of volunteers to help children live safer, happier lives. The foundation pursues its mission through care, prevention, and advocacy, supporting children experiencing family violence and online bullying, and defending the rights of young people. Operating within the Australian non-profit sector, the organization develops resources and programs aimed at child safety and trauma recovery. In 2025, it released a Trauma-Informed Practice Guide for Early Childhood Organisations in collaboration with Monash University's Health and Social Care Unit, reflecting an emphasis on evidence-informed approaches. The foundation also engages in educational initiatives and public awareness activities to advance safety and wellbeing for children and young people.
