The Alliance for International Exchange is the United States’ umbrella association for the international educational and cultural exchange community, comprising about 90 nongovernmental organizations. It traces its roots to 1993, formed from the merger of the International Exchange Association and the Liaison Group for International Educational Exchange. As the collective public policy voice for the exchange field, the Alliance works to grow and strengthen exchange programs by advocating on policy matters, offering member development opportunities, and increasing public awareness of the role of exchange. It is based in Washington, DC, and operates within the international affairs sector to support its member organizations and the broader exchange ecosystem. A renewed Alliance for International Exchange membership drive is planned for January 2026, reflecting ongoing efforts to engage more organizations in its advocacy and program development work.
