ALung Technologies has developed the Hemolung Respiratory Assist System (RAS), a dialysis-like alternative or supplement to mechanical ventilation. The Hemolung RAS provides Respiratory Dialysis,a simple, less invasive form of extracorporeal CO2 removal. By removing carbon dioxide and delivering oxygen directly to the blood, the Hemolung RAS allows the patient’s lungs to rest and heal. Applications of the device include preventing intubation in acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and enabling ultra-protective ventilation in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
