The American Meteorological Society is a Boston-based non-profit organization founded in 1919 that advances the study and professional use of atmospheric, oceanic, and hydrologic sciences through information exchange and education. It serves a broad membership of more than 12,000 professionals, professors, students, and weather enthusiasts. The society publishes 11 journals and sponsors more than a dozen conferences each year, in addition to a range of programs and services that support researchers and practitioners. These activities contribute to both scholarly work and the practical application of meteorology. Its work targets scientists, educators, and practitioners who rely on reliable information and professional development in the geosciences. In January 2025, AMS hosted its 105th Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, highlighting ongoing opportunities for community engagement and knowledge exchange.
