Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, American Refugee Committee operates as a humanitarian nonprofit in the international affairs sector, focusing on the needs of displaced people. For about four decades it has delivered health care, clean water, shelter, protection, and economic opportunities across 17 countries. As it transitions to Alight, the organization aims to connect people and partners to deliver lifesaving services and to develop new solutions with and for displaced communities, while moving away from labeling individuals as refugees. It reports serving more than 3.5 million people annually. The group has a global, mid-sized footprint with a focus on vulnerable populations requiring essential services and opportunity. A notable recent development is a 2024 partnership with Adeso Africa to advance locally led development, reflecting ongoing collaboration with regional actors.
