The American Retirement Association is a nonprofit professional organization in the financial services sector, based in Arlington, Virginia. It traces its origins to 1966 when it was founded as the American Society of Pension Actuaries, and today it supports retirement plan professionals through education and the development of policy aimed at helping workers achieve a secure retirement. The association brings together five member organizations—ASPPA, ASEA, NAPA, NTSA, and PSCA—to serve a diverse membership that includes business owners, actuaries, consultants, administrators, and professionals in insurance, finance, accounting, law, and human resources. It participates in industry events and advocacy activities, with recent involvement at the NAPA 401(k) Summit in 2026 and the PSCA National Conference in 2025. In January 2025, it appointed Josh Oppenheimer as Senior Director of Federal Legislative Affairs, underscoring its emphasis on federal policy engagement.
