Founded in 1918 by David Schafer, American Tool Company has produced custom parts for everything from hydraulic presses to World War II torpedoes. Originally located in an old mill building in Pawtucket, American Tool started by machining for local tool and die companies. After machining parts for war-related machinery in World War II, American Tool moved to its current machine shop location in 1963. Rick and Diane McCally bought the company in 1985 and began pivoting to machining complex parts for the capital equipment market. In 1990 Rick created Dynamic Converting Systems, which designs and builds presses ranging from 250 to 1,200 tons. All of the main components for DCS are built at American Tool. Recently Rick’s son and daughter in law Phil and Nicole McCally bought American Tool and continue to innovate the company with advancing technology and new machines.
