America’s Essential Hospitals, formerly NAPH, is the leading association and champion for hospitals and health systems dedicated to high-quality care for all, including the most vulnerable. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., we represent more than 200 hospitals and health systems nationwide, including public, nonprofit, specialty, and teaching hospitals. For Health Care Leaders America’s Essential Hospitals and its nonprofit research affiliate, Essential Hospitals Institute, offer constant opportunities for training, education, collaboration, and networking. Frequent webinars, toolkits, virtual classroom series, and events keep clinical and administrative hospital leaders abreast of policy issues and clinical innovations. Association and institute staff provide one-on-one support to members to solve the unique, complex challenges essential hospitals face. Our June 2013 Name Change Since our founding in 1981, our member hospitals have grown more diverse in type: many are indeed “public,” while others are now non-profit, teaching hospitals associated with universities, and health systems. Rather than refer to governance structure, our new name reflects our members' roles as industry leaders who support their entire communities. Our nonprofit research affiliate, Essential Hospitals Institute also changed its name; it was formerly known as the National Public Health and Hospital Institute to Essential Hospitals Institute (NPHHI).
