AmSurg Corp. operates in the outpatient care sector, owning ambulatory surgery centers and a surgical hospital, and provides outsourced physician services through its Sheridan division. Ambulatory Services develops and operates centers in partnership with physicians across the United States, expanding access to outpatient surgical care. Sheridan delivers anesthesiology, emergency medicine, radiology, and pediatric-focused physician services to hospitals, ASCs, and other healthcare facilities. 

Based in Nashville, Tennessee, the company has grown its footprint to hundreds of centers nationwide. As of September 30, 2016, it owned and operated 260 ASCs and one surgical hospital in 35 states and the District of Columbia and provided physician services to more than 550 healthcare facilities in 32 states, with affiliations to over 6,500 physicians and professionals. In late 2015 and 2016, AmSurg pursued a merger with Envision Healthcare to create a larger national provider of outsourced clinical services.
