Funded by local contributions and a self-imposed county tax, San Angelo Junior College opened its doors in 1928 with 112 enrolled students. 

Built on resilience, perseverance and determination, SAJC grew into Angelo State University, now enrolling over 11,500 students and boasting an active alumni base of over 50,000. In a values-focused and student-centered learning environment, ASU offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degree programs with the mission to provide highly competitive graduates to the global marketplace.

The spirit of Angelo State is captured in the Ram Family, made up of students from across Texas, throughout the U.S. and around the globe, as well as committed faculty and staff. With over 100 student clubs and organizations, thriving intramurals, competitive club sports and activities at the nationally-acclaimed University Center and ASU Lake House, campus life is vibrant and welcoming. Intercollegiate athletic teams compete in NCAA Division II and the Lone Star Conference, regularly competing for conference and national championships.

Angelo State is committed to helping students expand their stories through comprehensive support services and financial aid opportunities. By providing programs that support students’ transition to college life, academic progress and overall well-being, ASU ensures they have the best chance of persisting through to graduation. With over 600 unique scholarship programs and ASU Distinguished Scholarships, nearly 90% of students receive some form of financial aid. ASU awards more than $75 million in scholarships, grants and other financial aid annually, helping almost half of its graduates complete their degree debt free.
