ANSER is a not-for-profit public service research institute that provides objective analyses to support decisions in national security, homeland security, and public policy. Its work covers analyses of alternatives, acquisition, workforce, performance measurement, policy formulation, counter-weapons of mass destruction, and risk assessment, among other capabilities; it also coordinates technology development collaborations through its subsidiary, Advanced Technology International, for the federal government. The organization is based in Arlington, Virginia, with origins dating to 1958 when the Air Force sought an unbiased, technically qualified source to rapidly address mission requirements, with early assistance from the Rand Corporation. In 2024, ANSER was selected by the Department of Homeland Security to manage the Homeland Security Institute, the department's first federally funded R&D center, illustrating a notable expansion of its government-facing work. The organization has grown its client base while continuing to inform decisions that shape the nation's future.
