HIP-E replaces the copper traces in conventional circuit boards with a chip-scale fiber optic links that are 750 time more energy efficient than copper and have a bandwidth density sufficient to eliminate the von Neuman bottleneck. An overarching optical mesh network connects all the processors and memory chips to form a global coherent memory accessible to every processor. APIC has key patents on photonic integrated circuits, components and a system architecture that is scalable to an exa-scale supercomputer.
