Art in Action is a national nonprofit based in Redwood City, California, that provides visual arts education for kindergarten through eighth grade. Since its founding in 1982, it has delivered classroom lessons aimed at developing creativity, critical thinking, and complex problem solving through hands-on art; today the program reaches about 80,000 students and trains roughly 2,000 teachers and parent volunteers across more than 300 schools and after-school programs, with about half of those served coming from Title I underserved communities. In addition to its original Legacy curriculum, the organization has expanded to art-forward STEAM lessons and content that explores cultural understanding, social justice, healing through art, and art appreciation and technique. Its offerings align with Next Generation Science Standards, Common Core, and National Core Art Standards, positioning Art in Action within the K-12 education standards framework. The governance includes a 12-member Board of Trustees, and the organization operates with a small to mid-sized staff as a national provider of visual arts instruction.
