The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) operates as a political organization within the government administration landscape. It represents 63 First Nations in Manitoba and functions as a unified platform to advance their collective interests, while recognizing each Nation's right to self-determination. Governance comes from the Chiefs-in-Assembly, member leaders who meet periodically to set priorities, discuss issues, and guide dialogue and decisions.

The AMC is based in Winnipeg and is characterized as a mid-sized organization serving First Nations communities through partnerships, collaboration, and advocacy on matters affecting Indigenous governance and services. Recent developments include Kyra Wilson being named as the new leader in early 2025, following the death of Cathy Merrick, signaling leadership transition. The organization engages with government and public institutions, such as collaborations with Elections Manitoba and participation in national or provincial surveys, to support participation in democratic processes and to address community needs.
