Headquartered in Berlin, with offices in Brussels, the Association of German Banks (BdB) serves as the leading trade association for Germany's private banking sector. It represents and coordinates the interests of more than 200 private banks and 11 regional associations, helping members navigate regulatory developments. As a neutral intermediary, BdB engages with policymakers, administrators, consumers and the broader business community to articulate practice-based positions. BdB emphasizes political independence and a pro-European stance, supporting a market-oriented framework and a strong German and European financial center. It runs the private banks' deposit protection system, comprising a statutory scheme and a voluntary fund, operates an Ombudsman Scheme to resolve disputes between customers and private banks out of court, and participated in the 2025 launch of the giroAPI scheme.
