The Association of the United States Navy is a non-profit organization based in Alexandria, Virginia, dedicated to advancing the interests of the U.S. Navy and protecting Sailors' rights and benefits. It originated as the Naval Reserve Association and broadened its scope in late 2009 to include all members of the Navy communities—active and reserve personnel across officer, enlisted, and civilian roles, as well as serving, veteran, and retired sailors and their families. The group serves as a major advocate for Sailors and provides professional development for those within the naval community. Its work spans advocacy and professional development for current and former Sailors, including active service members, veterans, and their families. As a nonprofit in the defense and naval affairs space, AUSN engages in policy-related activities; a May 2021 policy paper illustrates its role in examining factors that have hindered the Navy from achieving a 355-ship fleet. The organization is based in Old Town Alexandria, with offices at 1619 King Street, and maintains information about its activities on its website.
