The Astronaut Scholarship Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Orlando, Florida, founded in 1984 by the surviving Mercury 7 astronauts and supporters who aimed to sustain U.S. leadership in technology and innovation. The foundation administers the prestigious Astronaut Scholarship, a substantial merit-based program for undergraduate STEM juniors and seniors, and supports scholarship recipients with mentoring, professional development, and networking opportunities with astronauts and industry leaders. Its work targets high-achieving science, technology, engineering, and mathematics students, helping them pursue academic excellence while fostering connections across the aerospace and broader tech communities. In addition to managing scholarships, ASF collaborates with industry partners, universities, and individual donors to expand opportunities for emerging STEM talent, and it maintains ongoing relationships with its scholars throughout their careers. The organization operates within the non-profit sector and has a presence in the Orlando area, with partnerships and programs that extend nationally through its network of astronauts and supporters.
