Australian Athletics serves as the national governing body for athletics in Australia. It is recognized by World Athletics and major Australian sport bodies including the Australian Olympic Committee, Paralympics Australia, Commonwealth Games Australia, and the Australian Sports Commission. In collaboration with state and territory Member Associations, it promotes and develops athletics nationwide and represents the sport's interests at national and international levels. The organization operates as a not-for-profit entity and is based in Melbourne, at Athletics House in Albert Park. It functions as a mid-sized national governing body, coordinating governance and program delivery for athletics across the country.

In December 2025, Little Athletics Australia merged with Athletics Australia, completing national unification of the athletics governance structure.
