In 1995, before any other automotive website existed, Autobytel pioneered online car buying and has grown to become one of the most influential automotive consumer websites today. Since its launch, Autobytel has also received numerous industry accolades for providing high quality leads and a full range of marketing services to dealers and manufacturers. In 1997, Autobytel was the first Internet company to advertise on the Super Bowl and in 1999, became the 7th most recognized e-commerce brand in the United States. In 1999, Autobytel also became a publicly traded company (Nasdaq: ABTL). From a trade perspective, Autobytel’s internally generated leads close at nearly three times the industry average, according to a 2012 R.L. Polk study. Autobytel recently announced a number of significant business deals, including an investment in AutoWeb’s unique pay-per-click advertising marketplace; the acquisition of Advanced Mobile to provide dealers and manufacturers with a full range of mobile products and services; and an investment in SaleMove to help its industry partners interact with online consumers in real-time. In October 2017, Autobytel announced its corporate rebranding and name change initiative. To better align with the corporate strategy and operations, the company was renamed AutoWeb, Inc. In connection with this name change, the company's stock ticker symbol changed from "ABTL" to "AUTO" on The Nasdaq Capital Market.
