Barrie School is a progressive independent school in Silver Spring, Maryland, offering an integrated curriculum that begins with Montessori-inspired learning from infancy (as young as 3 months) through Grade 5 and shifts to project-based learning from Grade 6 onward. The program emphasizes intrinsic motivation, responsibility, and belonging, aiming to cultivate lifelong learning, student voice, and inclusive perspectives. Its 45-acre campus houses the Barrie Institute for Advanced Montessori Studies, one of the largest school-based teacher training programs in the country, and Barrie Camp, a Washington, DC-area tradition since the 1950s.

The school serves families seeking a comprehensive education across primary and secondary levels within an inclusive, diverse community, with a focus on developing engaged citizens who can articulate and advocate for themselves. As a mid-sized independent school, Barrie is positioned within the US primary and secondary education landscape and has received recognition such as the 2023 Best Private School award from the Washington Blade LGBTQDC Readers' Choice Awards.
