BERNMOBIL operates as a public transit provider for the city of Bern and its surrounding area, delivering urban mobility through a dense network. As an independent public-law entity wholly owned by the City of Bern since 1998, it runs five tram lines, three trolley lines, and nineteen bus lines, serving more than 100 million passengers each year. The service offers frequent schedules on the main tram and bus corridors, with six-minute headways, and accounts for a meaningful share of local traffic at about 46%. Its fleet is modern and accessible, with low-floor trams and buses and real-time information available in vehicles and at stops. 

Electricity from hydropower powers the trams and trolleybuses, making those modes CO2-neutral, while a large portion of the bus fleet runs on natural gas and biogas. Based in Bern, the organization supports the city and its agglomeration with a sizeable workforce and a long-standing public transport role. A recent development includes a partnership with Glue Group to create a Progressive Web App aimed at improving daily workflows for driving personnel.
