BioBus operates mobile science labs and related programs for K-12 and college students in New York City, offering hands-on labs, research skills development, and opportunities to practice science communication at schools as well as after-school, weekend, and summer programs. The organization targets students traditionally excluded from the scientific community—due to factors such as race, gender, economic status, or limited physical access—with the aim of expanding participation and pathways into scientific careers. Based in New York City, BioBus serves students across the city with a focus on Harlem, the South Bronx, and the Lower East Side, and has engaged about 300,000 students at more than 800 schools, primarily NYC public and charter schools, with reach extending to Boston, California, Egypt, and Jordan. In 2026, the organization launched a fully electric mobile science lab, signaling ongoing modernization of its offerings to broaden access to science education.
