BIOEFFECT develops age-defying skincare products that rely on growth factors produced through plant biotechnology. The company’s signature ingredient is epidermal growth factor (EGF), complemented by other plant-derived growth factors such as KGF and IL-1α, which contribute to skin structure by supporting collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. This approach ties the activity of these factors to maintaining a firmer, more resilient appearance.

Based in Kópavogur in the Capital Region of Iceland, BIOEFFECT operates within the personal care product manufacturing sector. It was founded by three Icelandic scientists who translated a barley-based production method for human growth factors into skincare-focused formulations, emphasizing science-driven, growth-factor–based ingredients. The target market includes consumers seeking anti-aging solutions that address signs of aging through renewed cell turnover and repair.
