Biohabitats is an ecological consulting firm in the environmental services sector that integrates field science with place-based design to support ecosystem restoration and ecological stewardship. Its practice is grounded in deep ecology and ecological democracy, emphasizing that every species has rights and that projects should avoid interfering with their evolutionary potential while acknowledging the complexity of local places. The approach fuses rigorous investigations with land-aware storytelling to illuminate the connections and patterns that inform design decisions. Headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, Biohabitats is a mid-sized firm that serves public and private sector clients on ecological design and restoration projects, including collaborations with government agencies, campuses, and community spaces. In 2023 the American Society of Landscape Architects awarded Biohabitats the Landscape Architecture Firm Award.
