The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is a museum and educational center in Birmingham, Alabama, focused on civil and human rights education. Since its opening in 1992, it has welcomed more than two million visitors from across the United States and the world. The institution also serves as a research facility and teaching resource for people of all ages and backgrounds. Its permanent exhibition offers a self-guided tour of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s and the ongoing human rights struggles, featuring spaces that illustrate segregation, milestone events after 1963, and global connections. In addition, the center hosts an interactive resource gallery with oral history material and periodic changing exhibitions, and in 2023 it became a Smithsonian affiliate that partnered with the Birmingham Public Library to share the Men of Change: Power exhibit.
