BGCI is a mid-sized UK charity based in London, England, that serves as a membership organization for botanic gardens spanning more than 100 countries. It connects these gardens into a global network dedicated to plant conservation and the exchange of knowledge. Founded in 1987, BGCI aims to mobilize its members and the wider conservation community to address the threat of plant extinction, with a mission to mobilize botanic gardens and engage partners to secure plant diversity for the well-being of people and the planet.

The BGCI network houses significant living plant collections, seed banks, glass houses, and tissue culture infrastructures, complemented by knowledge networks that span conservation policy, practice, and education. It positions itself to promote an efficient, rational approach to plant conservation in botanic gardens through four main activities: leadership and advocacy, innovative projects, coordinating capacity-building across gardens and beyond, and providing funding. In July 2025 BGCI released a Spanish-language edition of its Botanic Garden Accreditation Manual, reflecting ongoing efforts to broaden access to its standards and guidance.
