It grew out of April Samuels’s 2010 diagnosis of an aggressive triple-negative breast cancer, when she combined her drumming with efforts to raise awareness and funds for research, trials, financial assistance, and mammograms under a slogan that has become its defining identity. The foundation’s mission centers on raising awareness and funds to advance a cure through energetic, music-oriented events that support research, access to clinical trials, patient financial assistance, and mammography. It has organized events since 2011, including its first breast cancer awareness walk, and in 2012 hosted Crash Gordon’s Breast Cancer Can Stick It! Fundraiser. Since its inception, the founder’s efforts have raised nearly $300,000, and the organization operates as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt entity.
