British Sugar, headquartered in London, operates in the food and beverage manufacturing sector as a major supplier to the British and Irish markets. The company runs four advanced manufacturing plants across East Anglia and the East Midlands, processing about 8 million tonnes of sugar beet from thousands of growers into up to 1.2 million tonnes of sugar annually. Beyond sugar, it produces 500,000 tonnes of animal feed from beet pulp and recycles stones for building, lime for soil conditioning and soil for landscaping, while its energy plants export enough electricity to power around 120,000 homes and it was the first company in the UK to manufacture bioethanol. 

Its customers are food and beverage producers in Britain and Ireland, supported by an integrated supply chain that links growers, processors and users. In 2026, it announced a collaboration with the Soil Association Exchange to financially reward growers for improvements in sustainability credentials of UK sugar beet production.
