The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management is a federal agency within the U.S. Department of the Interior tasked with overseeing offshore energy, mineral, and geological resources. It operates on a national scale from its headquarters in Washington, D.C., with regional offices in New Orleans, Camarillo (California), and Anchorage (Alaska). The agency’s remit covers offshore resource development and assessment across the United States, serving national interests and related stakeholders. BOEM relies on a broad range of scientific, engineering, and program-management expertise to address offshore resource management challenges. In April 2026, BOEM publicly released its Offshore Marine Cadastre Data Collection, a consolidated national dataset developed in coordination with the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC).
