Ecopower is a renewable energy cooperative from Flanders, Belgium. It aims to increase the production of local citizen-owned renewable energy and to rationalize energy use. Our mission is a decentralized, democratic and 100% renewable energy system involving citizens as fully fledged partners.

At the end of 2024 Ecopower had over 72.000 cooperative members. Together they invest in and own renewable energy projects: wind, solar and small hydro. The produced electricity is shared with all the members who are also clients.

Ecopower was founded in 1991, built it's first community owned wind turbines in 2001 and started supplying in 2003, when the Belgian energy market was liberalized. The cooperative also played an important role in setting up the regional and international networks for citizens energy cooperatives REScoop Vlaanderen en REScoop.eu.

Ecopower also focusses on district heating as a solution for sustainable heating.

As a cooperative, we abide by the international cooperative values and principles in our internal and external activities. Ecopower is a founding member of the Flemish cooperative network Coopkracht vzw and the Flemish and European networks of citizen energy initiatives REScoop Vlaanderen and REScoop Europe.
