The California Apartment Association (CAA) is the state's largest statewide trade association for the multifamily housing sector, serving owners, investors, developers, managers and suppliers of apartment communities. Founded in 1941 and based in Sacramento, the organization operates with a relatively small to mid-sized staff and counts major property management firms, developers, real estate investment trusts, and thousands of individual owners among its members. CAA supports its members through political advocacy at state and local levels, compliance assistance with new laws and regulations, and education on trends, legal issues, risk management, and best practices. Its membership exceeds 17,000, representing more than 50,000 owners and industry professionals, making it a leading voice in California's multifamily housing sector. In May 2026, CAA launched the CAA Action Center, an advocacy hub that enables members to contact elected officials, receive regional alerts, and share how rental housing policies affect their properties and communities.
