The California Association of Museums (CAM) is a nonprofit organization that aims to strengthen museums across California by unifying the sector and expanding its collective impact. It supports the success of museums and their communities through professional development programs, including an annual conference and regional workshops, as well as a biweekly electronic newsletter and various studies, reports, and leadership initiatives. The association maintains an active advocacy program that monitors legislation and advances strategic efforts to sustain funding and address important issues in the field, working with a broad network of statewide and national partners. CAM encompasses a diverse membership of historical societies, cultural centers, art museums, botanical gardens, science centers, tribal museums, zoos, aquariums, and children’s museums operating in more than half of California’s counties, and it collaborates with organizations such as the California Arts Council and the American Alliance of Museums to pursue shared goals. Based in Alpine, California, CAM serves the museum community through its programs and partnerships, reflecting its focus on strengthening California museums for a stronger state.
