CalEPA is a cabinet-level state agency established in 1991 to unify California's environmental protection authority. Its mission is to restore, protect and enhance the environment, safeguard public health, and support environmental quality alongside economic vitality. The agency develops, implements and enforces California's environmental protection laws that govern air and water quality, soil safety, pesticides, and waste recycling and reduction, informed by scientific research.
