The California Newspaper Publishers Association is a nonprofit trade association representing California’s daily and weekly newspapers. It comprises three entities: the association itself, CNPA Services, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary established in 1992 to pursue entrepreneurial ventures, and the CNPA Foundation, formed in 1993 to raise funds for internships and journalism education. The organization is based in Sacramento, and its governance is provided by a 35-member board elected by active member newspapers from Northern and Southern California. CNPA Services, Inc. focuses on association management and related initiatives and has participated in industry events such as the California Journalism Awards in 2025 and the Governmental Affairs Fly-In Day in 2024. Its activities include partnerships, notably with SmugMug in 2024 to create a custom deal and with the News Media Alliance in 2023 to address regulatory topics. The CNPA and its affiliated entities serve California newspapers by supporting advocacy, education, and collaborative efforts within the industry.
