California Newsreel is a small non-profit organization in the Movies, Videos and Sound industry, based in San Francisco, California 94107, United States, with a staff of 2-10 employees. It produces and distributes social justice films aimed at informing, educating and engaging audiences. Founded in 1968, Newsreel is the oldest non-profit, social issue documentary film center in the United States and was the first to pair media production with contemporary social movements. The organization serves as a resource center for advancing racial justice and diversity and for studying African American life and history, as well as African culture and politics. In 2006 it launched a Global Economy focus, and in 2021 it entered a distribution partnership with kweliTV to stream its African content.
