The Canned Food Alliance is a trade association operating within the packaging and containers manufacturing sector, based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It functions as a collaboration among the American Iron and Steel Institute's Steel Packaging Council, steel producers, can manufacturers, food processors, and affiliate members. The organization's main objective is to increase the consumption of canned fruits, vegetables, beans, meats and other proteins by emphasizing benefits such as nutrition, convenience, affordability, year-round availability, and sustainability. Through this focus, CFA positions itself at the intersection of food packaging and consumer health narratives. CFA engages with national health and nutrition groups, including the Produce for Better Health Foundation, the National Fruit and Vegetable Alliance, and the USDA National Strategic Partner program, to communicate the benefits of all forms of fruits and vegetables and to encourage health professionals and policymakers to support higher consumption. The organization, described as operating with a small workforce, pursues partnerships and programs that align industry capacities with nutrition goals. In 2018, CFA partnered with Echopr to help formalize collaborations with selected supermarket dietitians to promote nutritious canned foods year-round.
