Carnegie Museum of Natural History, based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, collects and preserves specimens and artifacts that document the history of life and human cultures. It operates within the museums, historical sites, and zoos sector and presents major exhibitions that explore natural history. Its dinosaur collection includes the world’s largest collection of Jurassic-era dinosaurs, and the Dinosaurs in Their Time exhibition features the third-largest mounted dinosaur display in the United States, behind the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History and the American Museum of Natural History. In addition to its fossil and paleontological focuses, the museum offers galleries such as Hillman Hall of Minerals and Gems, Alcoa Foundation Hall of American Indians, Polar World: Wyckoff Hall of Arctic Life, Walton Hall of Ancient Egypt, and Benedum Hall of Geology, along with the Powdermill Nature Reserve. Powdermill was established in 1956 as a field station for long-term studies of natural populations. A recent collaboration with Washington State University and the Smithsonian’s Museum Conservation Institute was announced in July 2025.
