Casella Waste Systems, Inc., based in Rutland, Vermont, operates in the environmental services sector with a focus on integrated resource management. Founded in 1975 as a single-truck collection service, the company now operates a network of more than 150 facilities serving residential, commercial, municipal, industrial, and institutional customers from Maine to Maryland. It serves more than a million customers, provides curbside collection to hundreds of thousands of households, and processes recyclables and organics at scale, establishing itself as one of the largest recyclers in the Eastern United States. In May 2026, Casella expanded its operations with the opening of a landfill gas-to-renewable natural gas facility at the Chemung County Landfill in Elmira, New York, developed with Waga Energy. The project illustrates the company's approach to integrating energy recovery with traditional waste services and expanding its renewable-resource capabilities.
