Castle & Cooke, Inc. is privately held by David H. Murdock who also serves as chairman, president and chief executive officer. Castle & Cooke was listed on the New York Stock Exchange prior to being taken private by Mr. Murdock in 2000. Mr. Murdock is also the majority stock holder in Dole Food Company, Inc. (NYSE) and also serves as its Chairman of the Board. Dole Food Company is the world’s largest producer and marketer of high-quality fresh fruit and vegetables. 

Through Castle & Cooke, Inc., Mr. Murdock owns various public warehouses, brick and building materials manufacturing and processing plants, aviation services and facilities, office buildings, retail properties, hotels and resorts (including three Four Seasons Hotels in HI and CA) and industrial projects throughout the United States. Through Flexi-Van Leasing, he is the second largest lessor of chassis in the nation. Major master-planned residential communities developed in California, Florida, Hawaii (Hawaii’s largest homebuilder), North Carolina and Arizona. 

There are a collection of assets under the Castle & Cooke umbrella of companies. Its roots can be traced back more than 150 years when Samuel Northrop Castle and Amos Starr Cooke began their business partnership by operating a general store in Hawaii. The spirit, vision, integrity and perseverance of these two men sparked the formation of a company that has operated in over 24 states and has amassed plentiful land, real estate, oil and gas holdings.
