The Center for an Urban Future is a small think tank based in New York City that conducts fact-based, nonpartisan research to inform urban policy. For nearly three decades, it has influenced the policy conversation around economic opportunity in New York by publishing reports that are widely covered in the media and anchored in rigorous analysis rather than preconceived outcomes. Its work spans multiple topics and policy areas, all aimed at growing the city's economy, expanding middle-income job opportunities, improving skills and credentials, and making neighborhoods more livable.

CUF serves policymakers and other city stakeholders with evidence-based findings to elevate overlooked issues and propose practical solutions. In January 2024, it released a report examining the state of chain stores in New York City.
